WILTON, Maine — A man was killed Wednesday afternoon when his pickup truck slid off a snowy Temple Road, according to police.

A pickup driven by Gale Waycott, 62, of East Dixfield skidded off the road, rolled over and struck a tree, according to Wilton police Officer Brian Lynch.

The officer said speed and the slick roadway was a factor, and Waycott was not wearing his seat belt.

Lynch said Waycott was pronounced dead at the scene. An off-duty state trooper happened to see the wrecked pickup and notified Wilton police.

Wilton and Farmington firefighters and Northstar ambulance assisted at the scene.
