PORTLAND, Maine — A local man was sentenced Friday in U.S. District Court to more than three years in federal prison for possessing child pornography, according to the U.S. attorney’s office.
William Alfred Roscoe, 30, of Portland was sentenced to 40 months behind bars and five years of supervised release.
Roscoe pleaded guilty to the charge in June, according to information posted on the court’s electronic case filing system. He has been held without bail since then.
Federal agents were investigating the exchange of child pornography over the Internet last year when Roscoe’s laptop was seized as part of the investigation, according to a news release issued by the U.S. attorney’s office. A forensic analysis revealed numerous still images and video files depicting children engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
The investigation was conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations and the Portland Police Department.
