The Bangor High School Rams and Brewer High School Witches have been playing some impressive hockey of late.
They will try to continue that trend in the ninth annual Fill The Alfond game at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the University of Maine’s Alfond Arena in Orono.
Bangor is 8-4-2 and in fifth place in the Class A North Heal points standings. The Rams are coming off wins over Edward Little of Auburn (3-1) and Cony/Hall-Dale/Monmouth (2-1) and are well within striking distance of second place and a first-round bye in the playoffs.
Brewer, 8-7, has won seven of its last eight and is sixth in Class B North.
“This is going to be like a playoff game in February,” said Bangor coach Quinn Paradis. “It will be a fast-paced game. It will be physical but under control.”
“All the kids are looking forward to it. They love to play in front of that kind of crowd. It will be a very close game,” said Brewer coach Lance Ingerson, whose Witches dropped a 4-3 game to Bangor on Dec. 18, 2015, in Bangor.
Bangor has held opponents to two goals or less in four of its last five games, including a 2-1 overtime loss to once-beaten Lewiston.
Bangor has been led by center Trevor DeLaite (32 points), Cam Cota and Cameron Burpee, defenseman Ben Crichton (18 points) and goalie Derek Fournier.
Brewer has been paced by forwards Dylan Severance, Tyler Hersey and Zac Duncan, defensemen Jack Schroder, Jack Watkins and Trey Wood and goalie Tyler Friel.
Bangor won last year’s Fill the Alfond game 5-2.
