BELGRADE, Maine — Officials have confirmed the identity of a man whose body was recovered from Salmon Lake on Monday morning.
Derek Palange, 40, had been missing since Jan. 9, and preliminary investigation reveals he died when his ATV entered open water in the lake on that date, according to Maine Warden Service Cpl. John MacDonald.
Palange’s body was recovered in 28 feet of water, MacDonald said. Authorities had been called when a witness observed what appeared to be a three-wheeled ATV under the ice on Sunday morning.
A pair of boots were found frozen into the ice about 35 feet from the ATV.
