CARIBOU, Maine — A Woodland woman lost control of her 2010 Chevy Impala on Route 1 here Friday morning and hit a tractor-trailer before ending up in a ditch, according to Caribou police.
The car driver, Donna Ekman, 49, complained of pain and was taken to Cary Medical Center in Caribou, police reported.
A hospital spokesperson reported later Friday that Ekman had been treated and released.
Ekman was traveling south on Route 1 at about 7:30 a.m. when she lost control of her car, crossed into the northbound lane and struck the rear tire of the oncoming tractor-trailer being driven by Alfred Reynolds of Catskill, New York, according to police. Ekman’s vehicle then continued to spin out of control until stopping in a ditch just south of Doyle Road.
An icy, slushy roadway was considered a likely factor in the accident, police said.
The accident is being investigated by Caribou officers Tim Dubois and Craig Peterson.
