BANGOR, Maine — The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency shut down an alleged methamphetamine-making operation in Raymond on Tuesday after it was discovered by a Cumberland County sheriff’s deputy, according to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland.

The deputy found the operation when he went to a Roosevelt Trail garage to investigate an alleged probation violation, McCausland said in a news release.

James Foss, whose age was not immediately available, was arrested for probation violation and taken to the Cumberland County Jail, McCausland said.

He added that the MDEA’s meth response team dismantled the lab Tuesday afternoon and that the owner of the garage Foss was using had no knowledge of the drug-making activity.

Foss, who was arrested last summer on meth charges, was an employee of the garage, McCausland said. He said that drug agents will likely lodge additional meth-related charges against Foss once they have analyzed what was seized from the scene.

The alleged meth-making operation found Tuesday was the 15th so far in Maine this year, McCausland said.
