LIBERTY, Maine — Two young women suffered serious injuries Monday afternoon in a Route 3 car accident that caused both to be taken by a LifeFlight of Maine helicopter to Bangor for treatment.
Driver Taylor Higgins, 22, of Surry lost control of her 2003 Saturn in the slush on the shoulder of the road on Route 3 in Liberty about 4 p.m., according to a press release issued Tuesday by Waldo County Sheriff Jeff Trafton.
Her car left the road and struck a tree, rolled over and came to rest in the ditch, Trafton said. Both Higgins and her passenger, Tasia Whittier, 22, of Bath, suffered serious injuries that were not considered life-threatening, the sheriff said.
The women were taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.
Personnel from the sheriff’s office are investigating and reconstructing the crash, and they were assisted by members of Liberty Fire and Rescue, Searsmont Fire and Ambulance, and the Montville Fire Department.
