PORTLAND, Maine — A South Portland man was sentenced Wednesday in federal court to 16½ years in prison for sexually exploiting a minor.
Wayne Niski, 29, also was ordered by U.S. District Court Judge Jon D. Levy to undergo 10 years of supervised release upon completing his prison term
Niski pleaded guilty to the charge on Sept. 10, 2015.
According to court records, Niski took several sexually explicit photographs of an 8-year-old girl in 2013.
In March of last year, investigators executed a search warrant at Niski’s apartment. Among the items they found in the residence was a USB flash drive that contained copies of the images that Niski had taken in 2013.
At the time of his arrest, Niski was living at the apartment with a woman and her two young children.
The investigation that led to Niski’s conviction was conducted by the Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
