ROCKLAND, Maine — The first person has announced intent to seek the seat now vacant on the Rockland City Council.

Adam Ackor issued a statement Friday that he would seek the seat vacated by William Jillson, who resigned Monday, citing an inability to work with other councilors and the city manager.

Ackor, 46, grew up in Cushing and has lived in Rockland for 20 years. He has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine and owns Shore Village Builders, a general contractor business. He is married with two children and lives on Old County Road.

He also serves on the city’s comprehensive planning commission.

Candidates can begin circulating nomination papers Wednesday and must collect the signatures of at least 100 registered Rockland voters by May 2 to get on the June 14 ballot. The term will run through November 2018.
