TOPSHAM, Maine — Officials are investigating a threatening note that was found at Mount Ararat High School on Thursday, according to school officials.
According to a statement from Principal Donna Brunette posted on the school’s website, school officials and police are taking the threat seriously.
“A written message was found at the high school [Thursday] indicating a potential act of violence would happen at the school in the near future,” Brunette’s statement read. “While there is no evidence that this is a credible threat, we take all threats seriously.”
Brunette added school officials are working with Topsham police in investigating the matter.
No classes were being held Friday because of a professional development day, according to Brunette. There are no plans to close school Monday, but a higher police presence will be on campus because of the open investigation.
