MOUNT VERNON, Maine — State police charged two teenagers with the Thursday night break-in at the Flying Pond Variety store on Route 41 in Mount Vernon, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said Sunday.
McCausland said that troopers also have identified the third teenage boy involved in the burglary and are attempting to locate him.
Surveillance photos from the store’s cameras were posted on the Maine State Police Facebook page and released to the media Friday, he said. Shortly thereafter, troopers received dozens of tips on who the intruders were.
Eric Clark, 19, of Vienna and a 16-year-old Farmington boy, whose name was withheld because of his age, were arrested Saturday night at a home in Greene. Both were charged with burglary, theft, criminal mischief and illegal transportation of liquor by a minor.
Clark was taken to the Kennebec County Jail and the teen was transported to the Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland.
Another teenage boy, who also is a juvenile, is being sought by police.
Troopers said the two teenagers who were arrested were wearing the same clothing shown on the surveillance footage.
In addition to the three males, troopers also identified a teenage girl who was in their car when the burglary was committed. No decision has been made on whether she will face charges.
The store was entered by smashing the window in the front door. Cigarettes and alcohol were taken.
