BANGOR, Maine — A local man accused of being an accomplice in a strong arm robbery last week was released Monday from the Penobscot County Jail on $1,500 unsecured bail.
Aaron Coker, 27, of Bangor was not asked to enter pleas to the robbery charges because he has not yet been indicted by the Penobscot County grand jury.
Susan Pope, assistant district attorney for Penobscot County, told District Court Judge Bruce Jordan that Coker was not accused of striking the victim. She described Coker’s alleged role as that of an accomplice.
Conditions of release include no contact with the alleged victim and not to be at the trailer park where the man lives. Coker also must abide by a curfew of 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. unless he is working. He also must not possess or use alcohol or drugs and undergo testing for its use.
Coker agreed to be supervised while on bail by Maine Pretrial Services.
The victim allegedly reported to police from Eastern Maine Medical Center shortly before 2:00 a.m. Friday that Coker and another man, who has not been identified, woke him up before robbing him, according to a previously published report. The other man allegedly punched the victim in the face, but Coker is not accused of striking him.
The victim suffered facial injuries, and he was treated at the hospital and released.
Coker was arrested about 9:45 p.m. Friday and spent the weekend at the Penobscot County Jail.
He is charged with two counts of robbery, one Class A and one Class B. If convicted of the Class A crime, he faces up to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000. If convicted of the Class B crime, Coker faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $20,000.
Coker was arrested in September 2015 and charged with drug trafficking in connection with a methamphetamine lab discovered in a French Island apartment in Old Town, according to a previously published report. That charge was dismissed in January, according the clerk’s office at the Penobscot Judicial Center.
The assault case remains open and anyone with information on the second suspect should call Old Town police at 827-3984.
