CAMDEN, Maine — Roger Moody said the time has come for a new face to be on the Knox County Commission.
The 72-year-old Democrat has represented the Camden area on the commission for eight years. He said Tuesday he would not be seeking re-election.
“I’ve enjoyed serving but eight years is enough,” said Moody, whose latest term ends at the end of this year.
Moody, a Camden native, earned a master’s degree in public administration at the University of Syracuse. His earlier career included work with the Connecticut Department of Community Relations, a stint as the assistant to the mayor of East Hartford, Connecticut, seven years as Ellsworth’s city manager, and 10 years working in the business office of the Bangor School Department. Then he was town manager in Camden for 11 years, until 2002, before working several more years with Camden National Bank.
One candidate already has come forward to run for the seat that represents Appleton, Camden, Hope, Isle au Haut, Matinicus, North Haven, Rockport and Vinalhaven on the three-member County Commission.
Democrat Sharyn Pohlman of Camden is the only one so far to have filed her nomination papers with the Maine Secretary of State. The filing deadline is end of the day March 15 to be on the June 14 primary ballot. Unenrolled candidates have until June 1 to file nomination papers to get on the November ballot.
Pohlman works with the Knox County Homeless Coalition and is a bus driver for School Administrative District 28.
A second seat on the commission also is up for a vote. Incumbent Republican Richard Parent Jr. of Warren is unopposed for the four-year seat that represents Cushing, Friendship, St. George, Union, Warren and Washington.
