Tyler Schwanz belted a solo home run to tie the game in the ninth inning on Wednesday, then contributed an RBI single during a five-run 10th that lifted the University of Maine to an 11-6 victory over Lehigh at Lake Myrtle Park in Winter Haven, Florida.
Schwanz added a double among 10 hits for the Black Bears (5-12), who halted a four-game losing streak. Freshman left-hander Eddie Emerson of Lewiston worked two innings of hitless relief and struck out two to pick up his first collegiate victory.
Brett Chappell drove in three runs with a solo home run, a single and a fielder’s choice, while Danny Casals knocked in three runs with an RBI double, a sacrifice fly and a squeeze bunt.
Brenden Geary contributed single and two RBIs for UMaine, which utilized five pitchers. Starter Chris Murphy, who remains on a pitch restriction as he comes off Tommy John elbow surgery, went three innings and allowed two hits and two runs with two walks and two strikeouts.
Logan Fullmer worked a 1-2-3 10th inning with two strikeouts to close out the win.
Connor Donovan paced Lehigh (3-9) with a two-run homer, a double and an RBI single. He also took the loss in relief, giving up three hits and five runs (four earned).
Jacen Nalesnik poked a triple and two singles with an RBI and Anthony Rinaldi provided a triple, a single and an RBI.
The Black Bears took a 5-4 lead in the sixth against reliever Peter Moore. Jon Salcedo reached on an error, Geary and Caleb Kerbs walked, then Casals hit a sac fl7.
Lehigh went back ahead with two runs in the seventh against Jeff Gelinas of Saco. Patrick Donnelly walked, then trotted home on Donovan’s home run to right.
UMaine made it 6-6 in the ninth when Schwanz cranked a one-out home run to right field, his third of the season.
The Bears broke the game open in the 10th as Pat Coughlin worked a one-out walk, stole second and scored on Geary’s single to left. Kerbs lined a run-scoring triple to left-center, then came home on Casals’ squeeze bunt.
After Jeremy Pena got aboard on an error, Schwanz and Chappell rapped run-scoring singles.
UMaine returns to action on Friday at 4 p.m. against Massachusetts.

Lehigh 8, Maine 6
At Tampa, Florida, Vicky Lattanzio drove in four runs with two hits, Katie Schultz had three hits and two RBI and Lehigh took advantage of four errors to beat the Black Bears.
Carolyn Wright and Rachel Timberman had two hits apiece for the 12-4 winners and Emily Sorem improved to 6-2 with with innings of nine-hit, six-run ball before Christine Campbell pitched a scoreless seventh.
Erika Leonard and Alyssa Derrick had two hits and two RBIs apiece for the University of Maine (5-7) and Janelle Bouchard belted a solo homer.
Annie Kennedy went the distance for Maine and allowed 12 hits. Only two of the eight runs scored off her were earned.
Men’s Lacrosse
Lasell 11, Husson 2
At Newton, Massachusetts, Josh Gallant scored four goals and Anthony Saitta had three goals and an assist as Lasell beat Husson.
Pat Egan had a career-high six assists for the 3-1 Lasers.
Casey Sullivan, Ryan Madden, Austin Tomasetti and Matt White had the other Lasell goals and Jorge Salazar stopped five of the seven shots he faced.
Jack White and Brooks Gay scored for 0-3 Husson of Bangor and Matt Martin made 22 saves.
USM 25, UM-Farmington 2
At Gorham, Nate Delgiudice scored five goals and assisted on five more as the University of Southern Maine beat the University of Maine-Farmington.
Austin Watts had four goals for the 3-0 Huskies and Keegan Smith and Drew Shane had three apiece. Smith also had an assist.
Jeff Urmston had two goals and two assists and Jaymz McStowe scored two goals. John Bossi and Zach Bessette each made four saves on five shots.
Justin Roberge and Travis St. Pierre scored for 0-2 UMF with Skylar McMillan and Cameron McAllister notching assists. Caleb Carr made 10 saves.
Curry 17, MMA 6
At Castine, Matt Serra scored four goals and assisted on another and M.J. Urbano, Ed Johnson, Brandon Flaim and Tom Cashin notched two goals apiece as Curry upended Maine Maritime Academy.
Jeff Yates, Wade Prajer, Ryan Ofgant, Devin Newell and Brendan Strobel had the other goals for 5-0 Curry and Shane O’Brien made six saves on eight shots.
Ellsworth’s Dean Samuelson scored three goals for 0-4 MMA and he also had an assist. Alex Grant-Roy had two goals and an assist and and Michael Martel had a goal and an assist.
Cody Schell made 12 saves.
