WESTBROOK, Maine — A man was taken to the hospital Thursday after apparently suffering an opioid overdose, according to police.
Police were sent to the Metro bus stop at Main and Mechanic Streets shortly before 9 p.m. for a report of an unresponsive man, according to Westbrook police Capt. Sean Lally.
Police administered Narcan to the 37-year-old man, whose name was not disclosed, the first time Westbrook officers have used Narcan since being equipped with it last month, Lally said.
The man was transported to a local hospital, where Lally said his condition improved.
Equipping officers with Narcan was part of Westbrook’s Community Approach to Stopping Heroin initiative that was launched in December 2015 and a change in state law allowing police to carry and administer Narcan.
