BENTON, Maine — Speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in a crash that sent three girls to hospitals Tuesday morning, state police said.

Sadie MacDonald, 19, of Waterville was traveling along Hanscom Road when she lost control of the vehicle and slammed into trees, according to Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland.

MacDonald, who had a suspended license, was carrying two passengers, Brooklyn Vining, 15, and Jodie Nadeau, 20, both of Fairfield, McCausland said.

The crash occurred about 10:30 a.m., and the impact sent the car airborne before it landed on its roof, pinning the girls inside, McCausland said.

MacDonald suffered multiple injuries and is being treated at MaineGeneral Hospital in Waterville, and Nadeau and Vining were taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center, McCausland said.

Trooper Rick Moody will consult the district attorney’s office and await blood-alcohol test results before deciding whether to file charges, McCausland said.
