WATERVILLE, Maine — A city humane society received an intake of 41 cats on Wednesday, according to the Humane Society Waterville Area.

“We had a situation yesterday where we took in 41 cats,” read a posting on the humane society’s Facebook page.

Ricky Turner, who works at the shelter, said Thursday a man who brought the cats in felt that they would be better off at the shelter.

The man, whose identity was not disclosed, would bring in the cats from off the street and take care of them, but none of them were spayed or neutered, and some kept getting pregnant, Turner said.

Turner added that all the cats will be spayed and neutered and will be put up for adoption at a later date.
