CHELSEA, Maine — A local man is facing multiple charges after allegedly breaking into a barn and stealing tools worth $3,000, according to police.
Among the items Michael Freeman, 28, is accused of taking include a boat motor and chain saws, many of which wound up at a pawn shop, according to Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland.
Freeman also had been on probation after serving jail time following a 2012 Rite Aid robbery in Fryeburg, according to McCausland.
Freeman told police he needed money to support his drug habit, McCausland said.
The burglary at the Togus Road barn occurred March 15, and the stolen tools were pawned the following day for $275, McCausland said.
Several of the stolen goods were recovered from an Auburn pawn shop, McCausland said.
Freeman is facing two charges of burglary and theft and was taken to the Kennebec County Jail.
