PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Heavy rain and melting snow from temperatures that reached into the high 50s caused significant runoff that flooded roads in Aroostook County on Friday night.
The National Weather Service office in Caribou issued a flood warning for parts of The County from Presque Isle to Houlton on Friday evening.
Law enforcement officials reported about 4:55 p.m. that water was flowing across McBurnie Road in Presque Isle, according to the weather service.
The weather station also indicated that Fort Fairfield officials had shut down Strickland Road because of high water.
The weather service urged travelers to keep an eye out and be prepared for flooding in parts of northern and central Maine through Saturday evening. The runoff was expected to cause rises in area rivers, including the upper branch of the Penobscot, the Aroostook, St. John and Mattawamkeag.
