BATH, Maine — A Windham woman and her son were injured Monday afternoon when the Mercury SUV they were riding in drove off the viaduct on Route 1 and landed on a pickup truck driven by a Bath man.
Melissa Medina, 37, and her 12-year-old son were taken to Maine Medical Center after they were extricated from the wrecked SUV, Bath Police Chief Michael Field said in a news release.
Roy Ordway, 60, driver of the Ford 150 on which the SUV landed, was not injured, Field said.
The police chief said that Medina was traveling south shortly after 2:30 p.m. when her vehicle struck the guardrails and drove off of the viaduct. The SUV came to a rest on its roof on top of Ordway’s truck.
The crash resulted in a significant traffic backup because the viaduct was closed and traffic was rerouted through Bath.
Traffic was back to normal and the viaduct was reopened by 5 p.m.
The crash remains under investigation, Field said, adding that alcohol or drugs were not factors.
Field asked anyone who saw the Mercury before it went off the viaduct to call Detective Sgt. Andrew Booth at 443-5563.
