PORTLAND, Maine — The chief medical examiner has ruled Paul Cady’s death was accidental, confirming what his family believed all along.

Miranda Cady says she knew her father didn’t commit suicide, and she’s happy the medical examiner came to the same conclusion.

Last month Paul Cady fell out of a sixth-story window at Maine Medical Center.

He was at the hospital recovering from a severe brain injury he suffered in a motorcycle crash.

Cady says her father was making significant progress but was always asking to go home.

She believes his desire to get home is partially what contributed to the accident.

She says she knew in her heart that her father wasn’t suicidal and is glad the evidence shows this was a horrible accident.

“You know, I didn’t want anyone to think that it was suicide because deep in my heart I know that’s not what it was, so when they called me and told me that’s what they thought it was, I was like, ‘No, God, no, that definitely was not what it was,’” Cady said. “I’d rather have them say it was an accident because I don’t believe it was purposefully.”

The Cady family has hired a lawyer, but at this point Cady wouldn’t say whether they plan on filing a lawsuit against the hospital.
