Restaurant fundraiser to benefit Bangor Christian

BANGOR, Maine — The Olive Garden restaurant on 741 Hogan Road will host a Spirit Night event on April 12 to support Bangor Christian School.

From 4 to 10 p.m. that evening, a portion of all in-restaurant sales will be donated to the school, up to $1,000.

Guests are encouraged to wear Bangor Christian’s school colors and join in the celebration.

This event is being held in partnership with the NFHS Network, the nation’s leading high school sports media company, and is part of Olive Garden’s ongoing commitment to support its local communities.

Similar Spirit Night fundraisers will be held at Olive Garden’s 200 Gorham Road location in South Portland for Catherine McAuley High School on April 12, the 205 Civic Center Drive restaurant in Augusta for Hall-Dale High School of Farmingdale (April 12) and Cony High School (April 19), and at the 150 Shops Way locale in Biddeford for Biddeford High School on April 12.

Son of Pat Summitt resigns due to improper relationship

Tyler Summitt, the son of Hall of Fame coach Pat Summitt, has resigned as women’s basketball coach at Louisiana Tech after engaging in an improper relationship.

Tyler Summitt, 25, just completed his second season as Louisiana’s coach and said in a statement that he regrets that he must resign.

“I am profoundly disappointed in myself for engaging in a relationship that has negatively affected the people I love, respect and care about the most,” Summitt said in the statement. “My hope, plans and prayers are to repair those relationships. I am appreciative of the opportunity I was given to coach at Louisiana Tech.

“I am heartbroken that my time has ended in Ruston, but because of my respect for the institution, it is best that I resign. I am hopeful the media and the public will respect the privacy of my family and me as we deal with this difficult situation I have caused.”

Summitt married the former AnDe Ragsdale in 2013.

Louisiana Tech had a 16-15 record in Summitt’s first season and went 14-16 this season.

Blues’ Ott diagnosed with colitis

St. Louis Blues center Steve Ott has been diagnosed with colitis and will be out up to two weeks.

Ott was on the verge of getting back into the lineup following double-hamstring surgery, which forced him to miss the past 53 games. Colitis is an inflammation of the lining of the colon.

Ott played in 21 games this season and had two assists.

Grizzlies waive Hollins

The Memphis Grizzlies waived center Ryan Hollins on Thursday and signed guard Xavier Munford to a multiyear contract.

Hollins, 31, appeared in 32 games (nine starts) for the Grizzlies this season. He averaged 3.6 points and 2.7 rebounds.

Munford has appeared in 10 games with the Grizzlies this season and has averaged 5.6 points and 1.9 rebounds a game.
