NEWRY, Maine — The early spring isn’t stopping ski resort Sunday River, which plans to be open until May.

Sunday River began its season Oct. 19. Even by their standards, that’s an early start. What they thought would be a great season ended up being a rollercoaster, with plenty of ups and downs.

With periods of snow, Maine also had warmth and rain, making for a difficult winter for ski resorts. On Friday, for example, temperatures were well above freezing, but that didn’t stop skiers and snowboarders at Sunday River.

Sunday River recently won an award for the best snowmaking team in North America.

They were able to make snow over the past few days and keep about 70 trails open for skiers as of Friday.
