WATERVILLE, Maine — A Skowhegan man faces several charges after leading police on a high-speed chase through three towns that ended in a cornfield in Norridgewock early Saturday morning.
Orlando Harry Perkins, 46, faces charges of operating under the influence, eluding an officer, criminal speeding, operation after suspension, operating without a license and possession of scheduled drugs.after he led police on a chase through Waterville, Fairfield and Norridgewock.
Waterville police tried to pull Perkins over around 1:15 a.m. Saturday on College Avenue, according to Sgt. Daniel Goss of the Waterville Police Department.
When he wouldn’t stop, a chase ensued, at times reaching speeds of about 80 mph, through Waterville, Fairfield and Norridgewock.
The chase ended on Martin Stream Road in Norridgewock after a Somerset County Sheriff’s Office deputy deployed a spike mat, which deflated the vehicle’s tires. Perkins then drove off the road and led police on a foot chase through a cornfield, where he was finally shocked with a stun gun by an Oakland police officer and taken into custody, Goss said.
He is being held at the Kennebec County jail in lieu of $8,300 cash bail.
The Fairfield and Oakland police departments responded to the incident.
