BRUNSWICK, Maine — A 29-year-old New York man has been indicted for aggravated assault and terrorizing after allegedly attempting to strangle his girlfriend and threatening to burn down her Brunswick apartment building in February.

Jason P. Mcguire of Churchville was indicted this week by the Cumberland County grand jury on charges of Class B felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor domestic violence assault.

Brunswick police went to the 34-year-old victim’s Cumberland Avenue apartment on Feb. 29 after she reported that Mcguire had struck her several times and attempted to strangle her, Brunswick police Cmdr. Marc Hagan said at the time.

She also reported that Mcguire threatened to set fire to her apartment building.

Officers allegedly found physical evidence of attempted strangulation, signs that the pair had struggled and broken glass in the apartment.

Mcguire was no longer at the apartment when police arrived, but he returned while they were there and was arrested.

He was taken to Cumberland County Jail and held without bail, Hagan said.
