FORT KENT, Maine — A local man eluded police in a high-speed chase over the weekend but later was arrested and charged with multiple violations, according to the Maine State Police.

Shane Bouchard, 19, of Fort Kent was charged with eluding police, driving to endanger, criminal speeding and operating while under the influence, according to a news release issued Monday by state police.

Trooper Travis Luce clocked a 2012 GMC Sierra pickup truck traveling 76 mph in a 50 mph zone shortly before midnight Saturday on Route 1 in Frenchville, according to the release.

Luce pursued the truck with his emergency lights and siren on, but the driver refused to pull over, according to state police. The truck allegedly reached a speed of 98 mph before Luce ended the chase “within a short distance, for safety reasons.”

However, Luce and other members of the Maine State Police as well as officers with the Madawaska and Fort Kent police departments continued to check the area for the truck before Luce found Bouchard a short time later, hiding in his truck in a logging yard in Frenchville, according to state police.

Bouchard was taken to the jail in Fort Kent, from where he was released on $1,000 unsecured bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on June 6.
