ROCKLAND, Maine — A Rockland man was arrested Wednesday night after police said he left his 4-year-old daughter home alone while he went to a bar.
Jeremy Dennison, 29, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, refusing to submit to arrest and a probation violation, according to Rockland police Sgt. Donald Finnegan.
Rockland police received information from an anonymous caller that Dennison had left the 4-year-old home alone at a Broad Street residence while he went out to a bar. Officers immediately responded to the home to check on the child and found her sleeping on a couch with the television on. No one else was at the home, police said.
Officers were met at the residence by the child’s mother. She said made arrangements with Dennison for him to care for their child while she was out with a friend, police said. The mother immediately came home after learning Dennison had left the child alone. Finnegan said he suspects the same person who called police had called the mother.
The time the child was left alone was not known, but police were able to reach the child within 10 minutes of the call.
Dennison also was on probation because of an earlier arson conviction, police said. When officers located and attempted to arrest Dennison in this case, he refused to submit to arrest, pulling and twisting in an effort to break free. Dennison was restrained by officers and taken into custody.
He remained at the Knox County Jail in Rockland on Thursday morning, being held without bail because of the probation violation.
