HIRAM, Maine — An early morning three-alarm fire destroyed a house in the town of Hiram.
The blaze at the Sebago Road house was reported just after midnight. When fire crews arrived, flames were pouring out of the garage, according to Hiram fire Assistant Chief Bryce Pyburn.
“We don’t know how it started, it came in around midnight, and the first crews found the whole end of the building in flames,” Pyburn said.
No one was inside the house at the time, and no injuries were reported, Pyburn said. Both the garage and the house were destroyed.
“The trouble we had was really getting access to the fire. These old houses have metal roofs and multiple layers of roof, and it just makes it really tough getting at the stuff,” Pyburn said.
Fire crews were still putting out hot spots at 6 a.m. No cause has been identified, but officials with the state fire marshal’s office are investigating the fire to identify the cause.
