BINGHAMTON, New York — Binghamton’s Dominic Smith snapped a 2-2 tie with a two-out RBI single in the eighth inning, leading the Mets to a 3-2 Eastern League baseball victory over the Portland Sea Dogs on Tuesday night.

Portland has lost six straight games and its last seven on the road.

Akeel Morris (1-1) retired all five batters he faced to earn his first win of the season. Binghamton starter Andrew Barbosa shut down Portland over 7 1/3 innings, striking out 10 batters and giving up just three hits.

Teddy Stankiewicz tossed his fourth consecutive quality start for Portland, giving up two runs (one earned) over six innings.

The Mets took a 1-0 lead in the third on a throwing error by first baseman Tim Roberson.

The Sea Dogs took their first lead of the night in the sixth off Barbosa. Jordan Betts led off with a walk and Jose Vinicio had a bunt single. With two outs, Bryce Brentz nailed a two-run double.

In Binghamton’s half of the sixth, Kyle Johnson was hit by a pitch, stole second base, and scored from second on a groundout. Johnson started the rally in the eighth with a leadoff walk and scored the winning run.
