ROCKLAND, Maine — City Manager James Chaousis said Wednesday that he will be taking medical leave to deal with a small mass found on his brain.
Chaousis said the mass is easily operable, and the surgery will be done next week.
The manager will be on leave May 5-13. He will then work remotely and be on light duty through June 3.
Assistant City Manager Audra Caler-Bell will fill in for Chaousis during his absence. He said she will consult with him on handling any issues that need to be addressed.
He said former Finance Director Virginia Lindsey will attend weekly Wednesday evening budget reviews with the Rockland City Council in his absence. He praised Lindsey, who just accepted a position as finance director in Camden, for agreeing to help out in Rockland.
A group of department heads who helped develop the proposed 2016-2017 budget also will be attending the council meetings to assist in budget reviews.
