ROCKPORT, Maine — A Friday night fire that destroyed a small camp is being investigated by police and the state fire marshal.

Rockport Fire Chief Jason Peasley said early Saturday morning that the police department is looking for people who were in the area of the camp within an hour of the fire starting.

There was no electrical power anywhere near the building, the chief pointed out. The building was a 10-by-12-foot camp located off Route 17 by Rocky Pond. When the first crew arrived shortly after 9 p.m., the building was engulfed in flames and the fire had spread to a 100 square foot area of woods.

The building was destroyed. The property is owned by the Onni Kangas Trust.

Rockport called for assistance from Rockland, but when it was determined the camp was a total loss, that assistance was no longer needed.
