Erika Leonard knocked in two runs with a solo home run, a double and two singles on Sunday afternoon, spearheading a 17-hit attack that carried the University of Maine softball team to an 11-3 victory over Hartford to complete a sweep of their three-game America East series.
The Black Bears took both of Saturday’s games, 8-3 and 11-2 in six innings.
On Sunday, Rachel Harvey continued her hot hitting, complementing Leonard with four singles and an RBI. Felicia Lennon doubled and singled (3 RBIs) and Alyssa Derrick singled twice (RBI) for UMaine (23-18, 10-4 AE).
Annie Kennedy and Molly Flowers combined to scatter seven hits, with Kennedy giving up six hits and all three runs with three strikeouts in four innings. Flowers worked three innings of one-hit shutout relief and fanned six.
Peyton Fisher had two singles for Hartford (6-39, 2-12 AE), with
Sawyer Fried (double), Danielle DeMarco and Elizabeth Newkirk each driving in a run. Bianca Ross took the loss.
On Saturday, Harvey hit two home runs, two doubles and drove in six runs to power the Black Bears to the sweep.
In the first game, Maine hit three home runs. Lennon started it off with a solo homer and Alyssa Derrick added a two-run shot, both in the second inning.
Harvey added a two-run homer in the seventh.
Maddie Decker and Derrick each finished with two hits and Janelle Bouchard contributed an RBI triple.
Left-hander Erin Bogdanovich (7-4) remained unbeaten in conference play. She scattered 11 hits while striking out eight and walking just one.
Kylie Dazalla recorded a double and two singles for Hartford while DeMarco and Fried each added two singles and an RBI.
Right-hander Flowers (9-10) turned in a strong performance in the second game to lead UMaine as she allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out three.
Harvey doubled twice and hit a three-run homer to spark the offense while Lennon chipped in with a double, single and two RBIs. Bouchard and Derrick each added two hits and an RBI.
