Christian Fisk of Rockport, a senior at Camden Hills Regional High School, scored a three-round split decision over Elias Valdez during an amateur boxing show in Newton, Massachusetts, on Saturday night.
Fisk, who trains at Wyman’s Boxing Club in Stockton Springs, used a strong performance during the final round to pull out the victory as part of the 5th annual Fight for Life fundraising event held at the American Legion Post 440 hall in Newton.
“I’m positive that’s what won it for him,” veteran trainer Ken “Skeet” Wyman said.
Fisk’s fight with Valdez was contested in the 132-pound novice division.
Fisk took the fight with Valdez, a product of Old School Boxing in Agawam, Massachusetts, on short notice after a scheduled fight on a Lewiston card last month fell through.
The two combatants split the first two rounds on the judges’ scorecards, but Fisk did enough over the final two minutes to earn the victory and improve his amateur record to 4-1.
“It was a good steppingstone,” Wyman said, “a good lesson for him.”
Fisk, who made his boxing debut in early 2015, is expected to return to action in June at a show being organized in Lewiston.
