BREWER, Maine — Police and Maine Drug Enforcement Agency officials are investigating a pair of possible methamphetamine labs about a quarter-mile apart.

Brewer officers initially were called to a North Main Street residence near the Joshua Chamberlain Bridge at 3:30 p.m. Monday, according to Deputy Chief Jason Moffitt.

Walter Botelho, 51, of Brewer was arrested after a search of his residence turned up a firearm, and he was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, Moffitt said.

Drug agents were investigating the scene on Tuesday, and Moffitt said it’s possible Botelho could face drug charges once the investigation concludes.

Moffitt said officials were expected to remain at the residence for the remainder of the day.

Botelho was taken to Penobscot County Jail after his arrest.

Later Tuesday, Brewer police and drug agents went to the Big Apple convenience store on South Main Street for another possible meth lab, Moffitt said.

Moffitt said two people have been arrested in connection with that incident, with more information expected to be disclosed later in the afternoon.
