BRIDGTON, Maine — Bridgton residents will decide in June whether a local food pantry will get more money.
Officials with the Bridgton Food Pantry have said the number of families they serve has increased dramatically this year.
The director said they rely on donations and it’s not enough.
Through a citizens petition, the pantry is requesting $10,000 for this fiscal year.
“This time last year we had 35 families average per week, which is approximately 170 people. We are now up to 80 families per week, and it’s almost 200 people per week that we feed,” Director Penni Robbins said.
Some people expressed opposition to the plan because it would increase taxes.
A public hearing on this and other items is scheduled for next week. The vote will be in mid-June.
