WESTBROOK, Maine — The housing boom in Westbrook continues as more new developments continue to pop up.

Construction is underway on a large parcel along Spring Street that used to be farmland.

All that land is being turned into single-family homes and apartments.

Westbrook City Administrator Jerre Bryant said the need for housing isn’t being met in Greater Portland, and Westbrook is an ideal place for development.

“Westbrook has a lot of undeveloped land in residential zoning districts, so as developers look to construct new housing throughout the greater Portland region, I think Westbrook is becoming quite attractive,” Bryant said.

Bryant said the golf course next to the Spring Street development also is for sale and would likely be developed into more homes.

He also said the city is monitoring residential growth to make sure it won’t significantly affect schools.

So far there has been a minimal impact.
