Longtime ESPN stalwart Mike Tirico will join NBC on July 1.

Tirico and NBC announced late in in April that he would be leaving ESPN, and on Monday his role at the Peacock Network became a bit clearer.

Tirico will work on an array of high-profile events including Sunday Night Football, NBC’s new Thursday Night Football series, the Summer and Winter Olympics, select golf telecasts and other major events.

“I am thrilled to join this outstanding team,” Tirico said. “For me (joining NBC) is a dream come true.”

Tirico joins NBC after 26 years at ESPN/ABC (1991-2016), where he established himself as a pre-eminent broadcaster. Among the events he covered for ESPN were “Monday Night Football,” The Masters, NBA, college football, college basketball, FIFA World Cup and the U.S. Open and Wimbledon.

ESPN announced on Monday that Sean McDonough would take over for Tirico as the play-by-play man for Monday Night Football.

McDonough, a former NESN Red Sox broadcaster, has been doing NFL games on ESPN Radio and also has done college football and basketball for ESPN. He has worked for the network since 2000.

ESPN is also reportedly making more changes to its NFL coverage as former NFL players Ray Lewis and Cris Carter will be leaving and recently retired players Matt Hasselbeck and Charles Woodson will be added to the network.
