STANDISH, Maine — Bonny Eagle High School was the target of vandalism Tuesday morning, forcing school officials to cancel all classes.

The suspect or suspects entered the building through a roof hatch in the new wing, according to a press release. The vandalism began in the new wing’s teachers’ room.

Officials say the contents of the refrigerator were dumped out and smashed on the floor.

The individuals then moved to the third floor of the old building and released fire extinguishers from the third floor to the first in the stairwell on the Saco River Road side of the building.

The individuals also went into the cafeteria and smashed the front of the new Snapple vending machines and dumped out and smashed the contents in the hallways and in the cafeteria.

Police say this all happened in a very short period of time. Officials say their alarm system activated once the individuals entered the hallway from the new wing teachers’ room.

Officials say there appears to be no other damage in the building and nothing appears to be stolen. Because the walls have to be hand cleaned to remove all the dust that was released from the fire extinguishers and all of the food and beverage products dumped in the building, it will take the day to get it cleaned and the building made safe for students to return.

The roof hatches and all access points to the building are being inspected and resecured. Officials plan to have the building ready to resume classes Wednesday.
