CARIBOU, Maine — Not all schools have a hall of fame to honor their notable alumni, but Caribou has recently joined the club.

Students in the school’s National Honor Society came up with the idea and did the brunt of the work to make it a reality, with their efforts culminating in the inaugural Hall of Fame induction ceremony at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Caribou Performing Arts Center.

After the students created a website to solicit suggestions from the public, a selection committee picked the following alumni to become members of the inaugural class: Olof Pierson, Admiral Gregory H. Johnson, U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, Kris Doody, Jessica Meir and Jason Griffeth.

All inductees have achieved success in their respective fields.

Pierson, a 1924 graduate, is credited with inventing frozen french fries.

Johnson was a four-star admiral in the U.S. Navy.

Collins serves as Maine’s senior U.S. senator.

Doody is the CEO of Cary Medical Center in Caribou.

Meir is an astronaut with NASA.

Griffeth is the grounds director at the Daytona International Speedway in Florida.

The upcoming induction will include a celebration and reception.
