PORTLAND, Maine — A Parsonsfield woman was ordered to undergo two years of probation and pay $2,713.08 in restitution for misappropriation of postal funds during a sentencing hearing Thursday in U.S. District Court.
Carol L. Carter, 58, was working as a postmaster relief in the East Parsonsfield Post Office between April and September of 2014 when she stole $2,713.08 worth of postal funds.
Court documents indicate that Carter stole the funds by selling money orders, pocketing the cash and then either not reporting the sale of the money orders until she could cover the shortfall with a subsequent sale or not reporting the sale at all, court documents show.
When interviewed, Carter admitted selling the money orders without reporting their sale and using the money to pay personal expenses.
The case was investigated by the United States Postal Service Office of Inspector General.
