PORTLAND, Maine — Portland police have arrested a local businessman on a cocaine possession charge.

Daniel McNutt, who owns Unified Parking Partners, which runs several Portland parking lots, was arrested over the weekend.

McNutt was released on bail and is scheduled to appear in court in July.

Police have not yet released any details about the arrest.

Cocaine possession is a Class D misdemeanor. If convicted, McNutt faces as little as a $400 fine, and as much as year in jail.

Mark Ohlson, a fellow businessman, said he was sympathetic.

“I own a couple of businesses myself. And you have to stay vigilant and you have to work hard. There’s a lot of stress in that,” Ohlson said. “But, it’s a force that will absolutely tear down a family or business.”

Last summer, some people questioned Unified Parking Partners’ enforcement practices, which include booting vehicles whose time has expired.

Once booted, customers must pay a release fee before they can drive off.
