BOSTON — The Environmental Protection Agency announced Friday $15,944,000 in brownfields grants will be awarded to all six New England states in order to clean up contaminated parcels.
According to a statement released on Friday, Maine will receive a grant of $7,340,000.
Approximately 18 Maine organizations will be receiving grants.
The funding is part of $55.2 million in EPA brownfields investments awarded nationwide this year.
The grant funds have paved the way for more than $1.4 billion in public and private cleanup in New England since the launch of the brownfields program.
