PORTLAND, Maine — The price of regular gasoline jumped more than 4 cents in the past week, to $2.34 per gallon, as the prime summer tourism season nears.
Price-tracking website GasBuddy reported higher crude oil prices will likely mean further increases in coming weeks, but prices remain lower than one year ago.
The national average for regular gasoline rose more than 6 cents in the past week, to $2.28, which was about 46 cents lower than one year ago. For Maine, the price as of Sunday was about 35 cents lower than a year ago.
Maine’s average was higher than Vermont and New Hampshire, at $2.32 and $2.24, respectively.
The Energy Information Administration projected in April that gasoline prices this summer will be the lowest since 2003, peaking in June.
