OXFORD, Maine — The 65-year-old woman injured Saturday in a fire at a senior housing complex over the weekend was listed Monday in stable condition at Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway, according a hospital spokeswoman.
Virginia Brown was listed in critical condition Saturday.
Theresa Heino, 85, died in the blaze that started in a common area of the building and sent thick smoke throughout the building, Maine Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said Saturday.
State fire marshals and electrical inspectors were at the scene Monday morning, he said.
“A suspected electrical issue in the common area is being looked at, and a determination on the cause of the fire is expected this afternoon,” McCausland said Monday in an email.
The fire broke out around 2 a.m. at Oxford Meadows, a large apartment complex along Route 26, according to a previously published report. Residents were brought to the nearby high school after being evacuated from their apartments.
The smoke detectors in the building were working, McCausland said. Because of its age, the facility did not have fire sprinklers.
