MADAWASKA, Maine — A Massachusetts man, who had moved to the area less than a month ago, was charged with assault Thursday after he allegedly went into his neighbor’s apartment and “started beating him,” according to the local police chief.

Tyler Casey, 23, apparently was upset with something his neighbor had done or was doing, Madawaska police Chief Carroll Theriault said Friday. Theriault could not confirm the identity of the neighbor.

Casey was arrested and charged with aggravated criminal trespass and assault. He also was charged with violation of conditions of release stemming from an incident that allegedly occurred the weekend before.

It was the second time this week Casey was arrested, Theriault said.

Last weekend, Tyler was told by police not to return to a local retail store after he was removed for allegedly making “lewd comments” to employees.

When Casey returned to the store Monday, he was arrested and charged with trespass, according to Theriault. Casey was subsequently released pending further court action, on the condition he commit no further crimes.

Following his latest arrest Thursday, Casey was brought to the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance July 6 in Maine District Court in Madawaska.
