BELFAST, Maine — A local man was arrested late Sunday night after allegedly driving drunk and striking a utility pole on Doak Road.
Brian Fogg, 26, suffered some cuts and abrasions during the incident around 11 p.m., which caused wires to go down on the road, according to Detective Sgt. Bryan Cunningham of the Belfast Police Department. Although he wasn’t in the vehicle when police came to the scene, officers knew he had been injured because of the blood left behind.
Belfast police called the Maine State Police to ask for a dog to help find Fogg, and the dog tracked the driver and then found him in the woods, Cunningham said Tuesday. Officers took Fogg to Waldo County General Hospital, but he refused treatment for his injuries and also refused to give a blood sample to check for his blood alcohol content. According to Cunningham, officials couldn’t administer an Intoxilyzer breath test to Fogg because he had blood in his mouth and the test doesn’t work in that scenario.
Fogg was arrested and charged with operating under the influence, possession of a usable amount of marijuana and leaving the scene of an accident. He was taken to Waldo County Jail in Belfast to be booked.
In addition to the Belfast police and the Maine State Police, members of the Belfast Ambulance and Waldo County Sheriff’s Office as well as a crew from Central Maine Power responded to the scene.
