ETNA, Maine — An employee of AAA Fire Extinguisher Co. was in the right place at the right time Thursday morning and rendered assistance to help extinguish a grass fire along Interstate 95.

Brian LeBlond, a 16-year veteran of the Auburn-based company, was traveling from a job in Bangor to one in Augusta driving a company vehicle when he saw smoke along the highway around 11:30 a.m.

LeBlond said he initially believed a vehicle had rolled over, but as he got closer he realized it was a grass fire.

LeBlond immediately pulled his truck over and pulled out fire extinguishers, passing one to a bystander who stopped to help.

LeBlond and the bystander got the fire extinguished quickly, and state police arrived shortly after, he said.

The driver added it’s possible the fire could have spread to the tree line had he not arrived soon.

“Instinct just kicked in,” LeBlond said

Once everything was under control, LeBlond continued south and managed to get to his scheduled job in Augusta.
