EMERYVILLE, California — Clif Bar and Co., which makes energy and protein bars, is warning the public about three flavors of its bars that may be contaminated.
The bars, which may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, have been recalled, according to a statement from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The following flavors may have been affected: Nuts and Seeds, Sierra Trail Mix and Mountain Mix.
Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and potentially fatal infections in pregnant women, young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems.
Short-term symptoms, such as high fever, severe headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, also are possible.
People who have purchased the recalled products are advised to not consume them. Retailers nationwide that have received the recalled bars are being contacted.
