BANGOR – Russell “Russ” Avon Rodgerson, 78, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on May 31, 2016.
Russ was born in Houlton on Jan. 28, 1938 to Raymond and Edith (Bates) Rodgerson. He was raised by his Aunt Sylvia and Uncle Stanley Higgins after the death of his mother in 1939.
Russ attended schools in Houlton and graduated from Houlton High School in 1955. After graduation he enlisted in the Army and served his country for 3 years.
Russ was employed by Electronic Missile Corp, Cole’s Express and Viking Freight Systems. After he retired, Russ and Brenda moved into the family camp on Pleasant Pond and poured their heart and souls into renovating it into a year round home. He loved entertaining, taking rides on their pontoon boat and snowmobiling with friends. He especially enjoyed making his “famous breakfast” for company.
Russ was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Presque Isle and Anah Temple Shrine in Bangor. He was a member of the Anah Oriental Band and the Aroostook Shrine club.
Russ was president of the Presque Isle Snowmobile Club and the Oakland Snow Goers. He also served as Vice President and President of the Maine Snowmobile Association.
Russ is survived by his wife and best friend of 55 years, Brenda. Son, Micah and his wife Debbie. Grandson Zach Hamilton. Granddaughter Holly McMullen and her husband Michael and great grandchildren Juliette and David of Mesa, Az. His extended family of half brothers and sisters. Very special relatives Matthew Bodine, Rebecca Young and their families.
A Masonic service and celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
