WINDHAM, Maine — One of Maine’s oldest residents is celebrating her 110th birthday Monday in Freeport.

Dorris Farrar lives at the Hawthorne House.

She was born in Bar Harbor in 1906.

Her family moved to Connecticut when she was young, and she went to school for nursing in Massachusetts, but she returned to Vacationland in 2003.

She said Monday has been a whirlwind.

“Well, it’s been very exciting and a lot of fun, because I’ve seen so many of my relatives and friends,” Farrar said. “They come and go every five minutes!”

She has two surviving daughters, and eight great-great grandchildren.

At 110, she is close to, but not the oldest person in America.

That title is held by Goldie Michalson from Massachusetts, who will be 114 on August 8.

She also has connections to Maine.

She is the mother of Renee Minsky of Bangor and has grandchildren and great grandchildren in Maine.
